Beauty of Ashes: T-Shirt Design

Framing the Challenge
The client needed a religious-themed shirt rooted in the “Beauty for Ashes” message of Isaiah 61. The concept had to feel emotionally resonant yet modern, visually feminine but strong, and avoid the clichés often seen in faith-based apparel.

- Visually interpret the “Beauty of Ashes” scripture in a unique t-shirt layout
- Appeal specifically to women through elegance and symbolism
- Integrate scripture within the design, not as a separate block of text
- Provide colorways suitable for both dark and light fabric applications
Crafting the Solution
Starting with the client’s concept of a woman’s face and natural beauty, the final illustration uses a silhouette filled with vibrant brush textures to represent transformation. Hibiscus flowers symbolize femininity and rebirth, while a gold oil droplet reinforces the “oil of gladness” line in scripture. Typography is interwoven into the profile, creating an emotional, unified layout across multiple colorways.

The resulting graphic became a standout spiritual design for the Jaded Duchess line, expressive, versatile, and inspiring. It printed well on both black and heather gray shirts, and resonated deeply with the target market of faith-driven women.
